TXT, SRT or VTT?

FormatWhat it isUse it for
TXTPlain text, no timestamps (or with [mm:ss] times from the timestamps tab)Notes, documents, AI tools
SRTNumbered subtitles with start and end timesPremiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, VLC, most editors
VTTWeb subtitles (WEBVTT)HTML5 video players, course platforms

Using the SRT in a video editor

Most editors import SRT as a captions track: look for Import captions or drag the file onto the timeline. The times match the YouTube video, so trim the start of your clip and the captions move with it.

Auto-generated captions break lines wherever the speaker pauses. Read them through before you burn them into a video.
