Transcribe a video

or drop an MP4 or WebM here (MOV in Chrome and Safari)

Only the sound is sent, in pieces, and we don't store it. Copy or download the transcript before you leave.

Three steps

How to transcribe an Instagram Reel

  1. 01

    Save the Reel

Your own Reel: open it, tap the menu and choose Download. A public Reel: tap Share and look for Download. Or screen-record it with sound.

  2. 02

    Upload it here

Choose the video above. Only its sound is sent, never the video.

  3. 03

    Copy the text

Copy the transcript, or download it as text, SRT or VTT.

Saving a Reel: what Instagram allows

Public accounts can let anyone download their Reels, and the owner can turn that off for the account or for one Reel. Private accounts' Reels are only shared with approved followers. Menu names change between app versions, so the Download option may move.

A downloaded Reel leaves out music added from the Instagram library. That helps a transcript: the speech comes through clean.

If there's no Download option, play the Reel with the sound on and use your phone's screen recorder, then upload the recording.

What people use Reel transcripts for

  • Captions and alt text for your own Reels.
  • A written version of a tutorial or recipe Reel.
  • Turning talking-head Reels into posts, carousels or newsletters.
  • SRT subtitles for the same clip on YouTube or TikTok.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste an Instagram link?

No. Instagram keeps its videos behind sign-in and blocks automated access, so we work from the saved file instead.

How do I save a Reel to upload?

Use Download in the Reel's menu (your own Reels) or the Share menu (public Reels that allow it). Otherwise screen-record it with sound.

Is it free?

Yes, up to a daily limit: 10 free minutes a day without an account, 30 with a free Google sign-in. Free minutes reset at midnight UTC. On a very busy day the site's free capacity can run out. Paid credits for more minutes and longer files are coming soon. See pricing.

Which languages does it understand?

Dozens, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, French, German and Japanese. It detects the language on its own; if it guesses wrong, pick the language before you start.

Are my files private?

No. Your browser pulls the sound out of the file and sends it to us in pieces. We pass each piece to our speech recognition provider and send the text back to you. We store neither the audio nor the transcript. The provider doesn't keep it by default, though it may keep logs for up to 30 days to look into errors or abuse. See the privacy policy.
