Three steps
How to make a podcast transcript
- 01
Export the episode
Use the final mix as MP3 or WAV, from your editor or your host.
- 02
Upload and transcribe
The cost in minutes shows first. An hour of audio is about 115 MB to upload, so a fast connection helps.
- 03
Publish it
Use the paragraphs tab for a transcript page and the timestamps tab for chapter notes.
Why publish podcast transcripts
- Search: a transcript page gives search engines the words of the episode, so people find it by what was said.
- Accessibility: listeners who are deaf or hard of hearing can follow along.
- Show notes: pull quotes, links and chapter times from the timestamps.
- Reuse: cut the transcript into posts, newsletters and clips.
What an episode costs
An episode uses its length in minutes. Signed in, the first 30 minutes each day are free, so a 25-minute episode costs nothing. Paid credits for longer episodes are coming soon.
Episodes are not stored
We keep neither the audio nor the transcript: see the privacy policy.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can it handle 2-hour episodes?
Not yet: for now a file can be as long as your free minutes, 30 when you're signed in. Paid credits for longer episodes are coming soon. The episode is cut into 10-minute pieces in your browser and joined back with continuous timestamps. Use a computer for very long files; phones can run out of memory.
Does it label speakers?
Not yet. The transcript has timestamps but no speaker names, so add those yourself if you need them.
How much does an episode cost?
Nothing, up to your free minutes: 30 a day when you're signed in. Paid credits for more are coming soon.
How accurate is it?
Clear speech with little background noise comes out close to word for word. Music, crosstalk, strong accents and poor microphones cause more mistakes, so read the transcript before you publish it. Names and rare terms are the most common errors.
Do you keep my file?
No. Your browser pulls the sound out of the file and sends it to us in pieces. We pass each piece to our speech recognition provider and send the text back to you. We store neither the audio nor the transcript. The provider doesn't keep it by default, though it may keep logs for up to 30 days to look into errors or abuse. See the privacy policy.
