Three steps

How to convert MP3 to text

  1. 01

    Choose the MP3

Voice memos, interviews, lectures, calls: any MP3 works, and so do M4A, WAV and other audio files.

  2. 02

    Transcribe it

The cost in minutes shows before you press Transcribe. The language is detected for you.

  3. 03

    Export

Copy the text, or download TXT, SRT or VTT.

Long MP3 files

A long MP3 is cut into 10-minute pieces in your browser, each piece is transcribed, and the pieces are joined with the timestamps running straight through. The pieces overlap by two seconds so no word is cut in half, and the repeat is removed. Signed in, a file can run 3 hours.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How big can the MP3 be?

Length matters more than size: without an account a file can be up to 10 minutes, signed in up to 30. Files over 1 GB won't open in a browser, so export the audio as MP3 first.

Can I convert a long MP3?

Yes. Long files are cut into 10-minute pieces and joined back together automatically.

Does it detect the language?

Yes. Leave the language on Auto-detect: it detects it from the start of the recording, then uses it for the whole file. Pick it yourself if the recording opens in a different language.

Can I export SRT?

Yes, and VTT and plain text too.

Is it free?

Yes, up to a daily limit: 10 free minutes a day without an account, 30 with a free Google sign-in. Free minutes reset at midnight UTC. On a very busy day the site's free capacity can run out. Paid credits for more minutes and longer files are coming soon. See pricing.
