Privacy Policy
Scribopal turns YouTube captions and your own recordings into transcripts. This page says what we collect to do that, who handles it, and how long it's kept.
What we collect
- Your audio and video files: never stored. Your browser takes the sound out of the file and sends it to us in pieces of up to 10 minutes. We pass each piece to our speech recognition provider and send the text back to your browser. We keep neither the audio nor the transcript (see Groq below), and the video picture never leaves your device.
- Transcription logs: that a piece was transcribed, when, how many minutes it was, and whether it used free minutes or credits. Never the audio or the words. Deleted after 90 days.
- YouTube captions: when you ask for a video's transcript, we fetch the captions YouTube already publishes and keep a copy for 7 days, so the next person asking for the same video gets it faster. We don't record who asked. The cache holds public captions only, never video or audio.
- Your IP address: only as a salted hash, never the address itself. It counts free minutes and requests per visitor (deleted after 7 days) and is kept with your sign-in session, along with the browser it started from (deleted when the session ends).
- Your account, if you make one: your email address and name from Google, your credit balance, and your orders. Kept while your account exists.
- Payments: handled by our payment provider. We never see your card number.
- Feedback you send, with any screenshots: kept until we've dealt with it, and deleted with your account.
Cookies
We set a sign-in cookie when you sign in, and nothing for advertising. Visitor counts come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies.
Who we share it with
Only the services that run the site:
- Groq, our speech recognition provider: receives the sound of the files you transcribe, to turn it into text. Groq doesn't keep it by default, but may keep logs for up to 30 days to investigate errors or abuse.
- Cloudflare: hosting, bot checks and visitor counts.
- Neon: the database.
- Google: sign-in.
- Waffo or PayPal: payments.
- PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (error reports), when they're switched on. Neither ever receives your audio, your transcripts or the videos you look up.
We don't sell personal information, and we never use your files or transcripts to train anything.
Your rights
